The Ultimate Cabo Golf List: My Favorite Courses in Los Cabos and Baja

by Fletcher Wheaton

So I’m going to name my top five golf courses in Cabo and Baja.

Now before everybody attacks me in the comments, I haven’t played every single course yet. But I’ve played enough of them to have some strong opinions, and this list is based on overall experience, playability, scenery, exclusivity, conditioning, and just how much I genuinely enjoy being out there.

Number one for me is easily Chileno Bay.

Chileno Bay is just on another level. You’ve got the North Course, the new South Course, 36 holes total, and the entire experience is insane. The conditioning is always perfect, the course is never overcrowded, and everything feels polished and ultra-exclusive.

You do need membership access, so it’s not easy to get onto, but to me it’s the best overall golf experience in Cabo right now.

Number two is Querencia.

Querencia is one of those courses that grew on me over time. The first time I played it, I honestly didn’t fully understand the hype. But the more I played it, the more I appreciated how good it actually is.

It’s tough. It will humble you very quickly if you’re not playing well. It sits a little more inland compared to some Cabo oceanfront courses, but you still get incredible ocean views throughout the round.

What makes Querencia special is the routing and the challenge. It feels like a serious golf course.

They also have another 18-hole course coming online. I’m sure it’ll be nice, but honestly, I don’t think there’s any way it surpasses the original course. The current one is just that good.

Number three is probably a shocker for a lot of people: .

I absolutely love Rancho San Lucas golf course.

It’s a Greg Norman design on the Pacific side, and the course flows really well. Some Cabo courses almost feel too difficult or too forced with the desert layouts, but Rancho San Lucas feels natural and smooth to play.

Now, at this exact moment, I’m not necessarily in love with all the real estate options within Rancho San Lucas, but strictly from a golf standpoint, I think the course is outstanding.

Number four for me is at El Cardonal at Diamante.

Most people prefer the Dunes course at Diamante, and I understand why. But personally, I really enjoy Cardonal.

It’s Tiger Woods’ course, it’s where the PGA events are played, and I think it’s much more forgiving and playable for the average golfer. It’s wide open, fun off the tee, and you can actually recover from mistakes without feeling punished every hole.

And number five, I’m going with Quivira.

Quivira is very much a resort-style golf course. Some golfers complain and say it’s a little too “Mickey Mouse” because of how dramatic and manufactured some of the holes feel. But honestly, the course is absolutely stunning.

The scenery there is ridiculous.

People call Quivira the Pebble Beach of Mexico for a reason. The ocean cliffs, the elevation changes, and the views are unreal.

Now, there is one major downside: pace of play.

If you try to golf Quivira during peak season, it can turn into a six-hour round very quickly. You have a ton of tourists playing the course, and because the views are so dramatic, people are constantly stopping for photos and slowing things down.

Quivira desperately needs a second 18-hole course.

They’ve talked for a while about adding another course, and it honestly should have already been completed by now. I’m not exactly sure what’s going on there, but there are definitely golfers frustrated with the overcrowding because demand is extremely high.

Now, I’ll give some honorable mentions.

Puerto Los Cabos is a really fun course and one I always enjoy playing.

I also love the Desert course at Cabo Del Sol. Everybody knows Cabo del Sol Desert is expected to go private in 2028, so right now it’s still relatively easy for the public to access compared to what it likely will be in the future.

I also haven’t yet had the chance to golf or Twin Dolphin or El Dorado.

Twin Dolphin especially has a phenomenal reputation. That’s where a lot of high-profile players and celebrities golf, including Michael Jordan, and everybody I know who has played it says it’s incredible.

Outside of Cabo, there are a few courses that deserve serious recognition too.

Costa Palmas was absolutely stunning when I played it. I had the chance to play with the golf pro there, and the experience was incredible. I have heard the winter winds can get brutal at times, but when I played it, conditions were perfect.

Puerta Cortes in La Paz is another very underrated course that golfers should absolutely check out.

And if we’re talking all of Baja, not just Cabo, TPC Danzante Bay. I honestly might put at number one overall in all of Baja.

TPC Danzante Bay is unbelievable.

Everybody talks about the famous 17th hole, the dramatic cliffside par three overlooking the ocean, but the entire course experience is incredible. It’s the only TPC course in Mexico right now, and it’s one of the most visually impressive golf courses I’ve ever played.

So that’s my list for Cabo and Baja golf.

  1. Chileno Bay
  2. Querencia
  3. Rancho San Lucas
  4. El Cardonal at Diamante
  5. Quivira Golf Club

Honorable Mentions:

  • Puerto Los Cabos Golf Club
  • Cabo del Sol Desert Course
  • Twin Dolphin Club
  • El Dorado Golf & Beach Club
  • Costa Palmas Golf Club
  • Puerto Cortés Golf Club
  • TPC Danzante Bay

Curious what everybody else’s rankings would look like.
